Wasps

Scientific name: Order: Hymenoptera

Description

Wasps are a common pest in many parts of Australia. They are scavenging insects feeding on sweet food forces as well as meat. They create paper and/or mud nests. Their bodies can be identified by being bee like with two wings. Each species varies in colouration but mostly have black banding along the abdomen. They may vary in colour from yellow, orange to red and even black. Unlike bees, wasps can sting multiple times and still survive. Caution must be taken if you encounter a nest as the stings can be painful and may cause swelling.
