Capeweed

Botanical Name: Arctotheca calendula

Description

Capeweed is an annual cool-season broadleaf weed, with low to the ground rosette forming growth habit and light green leaves with a distinctive large serrated outline and silvery downy underside. Weed growth usually commences in mid to late autumn until late spring or early summer. Flowers will appear as pitted receptacle with radiating yellow florets similar in appearance to a daisy. Flowers form in late winter and spring producing woolly seeds that stick to clothing and effectively spread the weed through traffic and wind. The deep taproot can make this weed difficult to control through both hand weeding and chemical application.
